out new information about why the fbi was actually searching her home in north carolina earlier in the week. what were they looking for, and what do they believe her role is? >> well, what we're hearing now, suzanne, is that david petraeus, at some point earlier on had designated broadwell as his archivist. that is, to be the re pos itory of sort of the documents related to his military career. you can imagine we often think of that in relation to prior presidents who have a library david petraeus was assembling and leaving his documents, and he had broadwell, worry told, doing that for him. pretty interesting, suzanne, because, of course, we heard from surrogates for david petraeus that the relationship ended four months ago, so it's a question as to why would you have continued to have her be the repositivetory for these documents? we saw a five-hour search at broadwell's home. many documents pulled out. we're looking at those pictures now. clearly, the concern of the fbi is and has been are there classified materials there and if there are classified materials, where did she

by the fbi. that's right, the fbi, which sometime during the summer investigated harassing e-mails sent to this woman, petraeus family friend jill kelly. that probe determined that the e-mails, which included an admonition to, quote, back off, came from paula broadwell. while combing through broadwell's e-mails they came upon david petraeus. let's stop it here and bring in suzanne -- suzanne kelly in washington, our intelligence correspondent. suzanne, a lot of ground to cover here. we have this video that has surfaced of paula broadwell, last month, speaking at the university of denver and she's speaking here as david petraeus' biographer about the deadly attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya. let's take a listen. >> i don't know if a lot of you heard this, but the cia an annex had taken a couple prisoner and they think the attack on the consulate was an attempt to get the prisoners back. that's still being vetted. >> where did she hear that? did it come from david petraeus and do we know if her claim was true, the cia was holding captives inside a consular annex in benghazi?

that prompted the fbi to investigate. also we know from that source that the investigation led to the discovery of e-mails between broadwell and petraeus that indicated the affair. more details are coming out about the timeline of events and when u.s. officials were notified of the circumstances of this investigation. the fbi informed the director of national intelligence james clapper about the investigation on tuesday night, election night. just as some polls were beginning to close. that director clapper as a friend, colleague, fellow officer and admirer urged petraeus to step down from his position. we know as well from that intelligence source that director clapper informed the white house about the investigation on wednesday and then on thursday the director and -- the questions now, of course, will focus on this second woman. who was she? what was the nature of her relationship with petraeus, and what more do officials know about the nature of those emails between broadwell and this other woman? maybe some of those questions will be answered as the oversight committees now begin to pose

is at the epicenter of this scandal. new this is morning she is not likely to face charges. fbi agents raided her home, taking computers and other documents earlier this week. finally, we now know the identity of the fbi agent who first investigated the whole mess. by now you probably know him as the shirtless agent, the guy who sent a shirtless photo to jill kelly, the other woman involved in this mess. fbi agents name is frederick humphries, over those supposedly harassing e-mails now linked to paula broadwell. hope you got that. >>> controversy over benghazi, as you know, has reached a boiling point, though. yesterday at his first press conference, being row elected, president obama has strong words for anyone who blames u.s. -- united nations ambassador susan rice for the benghazi response. here is what the president said. >> as i've said before, she made an appearance at the request of the white house in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her. if senator mccain and senator graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me. >> oka
